Stirring porridge=changing gears

Post by subarutility » Tue Nov 11, 2008 12:54 pm

I have been told that there is a roll pin that wears out in the gear linkage on Subarus: has any one changed this part? is it hard? any hints?. I already have the part, it only cost $2.25 from Subaru. Might have a go this afternoon...

if your talking about a brumby 4 speed....

then the best way it seems to fix it is to replace the roll pin with a bolt and nut
and cut a slot in the linkage so the bolt squashes it together and making it a tighter fit

im pretty sure ive seen pics of it around here somewhere, but ive done it this way and works a treat!

I'll second that - Sunnie the brumby is going strong on this mod. Also replace the bush in the top of the gearbox slot for the gearstick - you'll feel like you have a sports shift after you do the two of these things!

Would the same mod work for my '93 Liberty? *MY* gear shift feels like stirring porridge too! Often find myself selecting 4th instead of 2nd! Needs pressure to the left to keep things "on track". :( I had a '98 Liberty just before this one, and the shifter was a *lot* crisper!

wouldnt think so.

be more likely to be Bushings that need replacing in the Lib gearsticks.
