ok is there any way to set timing and general tune of the EA82t with out the use of a scan tool and no timing marks on the fly wheel?.
I am useing a aftermarket flywheel and it has no markings plus i cant connect a scan tool to the ecu as the plug is buggered. I have had the engine rebuilt but now i am struggling to set it up right.
Is there a basic set up i can use that will get me in the ball park as regards to fuel/air mixture,timing as i don't want to trash the engine. I am trying to sort out a aftermarket ECU so that i can do things right but for now as i want to use the car...
any ideas??

just about everything, heads cleaned polished with all new valves,new pistons,small and big ends, crank grind and balance,rods linished and balanced,flywheel balanced,oil pump,water pump, new oxy senser,injectors,leads plugs etc etcMatatak wrote:what did you do on the rebuild?
if everything is still standard it shuldnt need A/F's touched to make it run good on a fresh engine.
when i first did it and put it back in the car it was running crap(turned out a wire to the afm was loose) so i sent it down to the local dyno shop where they played around with the two screws on the throttle body thinking there was mixture issues. It runs quite well since i found the wire issue but its useing a heap of fuel (u can smeel its way to rich adn its black as onthe silencer) and although it goes well its lost the urgency it had when the turbo comes on. I have not had it dyno'd since the build but before on a very tired engine it gave 112BHP at the threads and it doesnt feel as quick as it used to.
could be engine coolant sensor, causing ECU to think engine is cold,
it gets easier to diagnose with aftermarket ECUs because you can view what the ECU sees from the sensors.
Your flywheel suks:p. I suggest you take off the front timing covers, set it up and paint/groove your own marks in the flywheel.

Yess , your engine builder should have known better than to assemble it with no means of setting it's ignition timing .
If you have a std flywheel you could accurately measure the distance between the factory timing marks and apply them to your flywheel - once you've found and marked the No 1 tdc point on its compression stroke .
If I'd been the builder I would have made some kind of pointer for the crank pulley (like Spider EA82's have) and marked the pulley by referencing off the original flywheels timing marks/pointer .

what about the mixtures? where they have played around with the two screws(mixture and idle?) is there a base setting for them to get it in the ball park?
Yea the fly wheels a pain the the arse!! and yea before the build i should have marked, even when we set it to tdc on one to get it where it is now we should have marked it...
just been offered a EJ20TT with hailtech ecu for her. very tempted ...

The 2 screws on the throttle body are for idle speed, and fast idle speed (the one when air con is on)
The EA82 ecu is not programable. If you have the factory air flow meter, the a/f ratios should be pretty close. The only way to modify them is with an aftermarket ecu.

bollocks!! there u go not gettign told the whole truth again!!! ..ok it does idle high when cold so which one is what?
