'check engine' still on!
hey evryone
lookin to see if anyone could give me a bit of help. recently had the check engine light come on my 98 liberty after 10 mins of driving each time. took it to a genuine subaru service and they found a few problems:
had to replace timing belt.
clean fuel injectors
clean power steering fluid
they seemed to have a good look at it considering i thought the only problem was the timing belt.
but after the service the check engine light still comes on after 10mins or so of driving. everything sounds fine and performs as normal.
could it be a false check engine light??
any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

G'day,
Similar thing happened to my Liberty (not same problem - it was idle sensor, MAF sensor & speed sensor) and I just disconnected the battery overnight and the problems went away and never had that "Check Engine" light for a while... So have you done the battery dance yet?
Cheers

If you have an intermittent check light you should find out what it is. Look under the steering column for the main wiring loom. You will find two green plugs and two black plugs. None of them will be plugged in and they all only have one wire going to them.
Plug the two green ones together and leave them plugged in until you get readings on the dash (Check engine light) If it is happening after 10 mins of driving normally then that is about when you would expect to see the codes.
It is a series of flashes. Long then short. Count them. If you get "long long long long, short short" Then you consider that 42. Find the code and then come back to us and some one will be able to tell you what it is. It will flash a default code at you when it doesn't find any thing wrong. generally 5 short flashes.
With the green plugs joined you car will cycle all the electronics when the ignition is on and the car isn't running. That is, you will hear clicking noises every where and the fans will go and stop. It is not harming your car. When you drive it it will act normally.
