Gearbox for Brumby - 85 Model

Post by Reg Brumbys » Tue Sep 15, 2009 4:33 pm

Was there any brumby gearboxes brought out with only single range, or where they all dual range?

Cheers

heres a pretty comprehensive list from wikipedia (remember it aint always accurate)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Su ... nsmissions

and it seems the brumby didn't have a single range box as standard

( Im sure that could be disputed :))
hope it helps

wiki can be written by those with some knowledge. I recently read something a little more reliable somewhere indicating Brumby was offered single range but never seen one. I thought maybe Brumby referred to two models, the ugly and the MY. Think it was subaru literature somewhere, cannot recall. Standard may be d/r , single may be optional

Thanks Lads - I saw a box advertised on Flea bay - said it was a spare a guy got whit his brumby but I couldn't see any dual range lever.

Also, I'm putting in a new clutch and wanted to get the flywheel machined while I was doing it, but as it's my daily driver I don't want it off the road for more than 24 hours, and can really only work on it on a Sunday - Can I use a flywheel from any 4 speed ea81 gearbox - say from a MY Touring Wagon, get it machined and just swap it with the one that is there to save any down time or is there a possibilty they may be different in some way?

Hey Reg,

As Toonga Said , there are 2 sizes, 200 mm and 225 mm. As you are talking about a 85 model, it is more than likely 225mm. But in saying that, you just never know if it has been changed over the years. You can always get another flywheel and get it machined and get the clutch kit size to suit it. then just replace the flywheel and clutch that are in the car now. Which means down the track, you have a flywheel to get machined and can get a clutch kit for the next time .
