Brumby Lseries 5 speed conversion

Post by Callum89 » Sat Nov 28, 2009 10:06 pm

We have successfully completed the conversion. We used the L clutch cable and clutch pedal as suggested. The fit of the L cable in the Brumby was poor as was the clutch action and feel. The end of the cable eventually failed. My solution to this problem was to have all the L fittings at that end of the cable removed and replaced with the Brumby fittings.I now use the Brumby clutch pedal with which the modified L Cable mates up with properly and works excellently To give full clutch adjustment the mount on top of the gearbox needs to be moved back.I used a piece of flat steel between the gearbox and the clutch cable mount.Bolt the flat to the gearbox using the original cable bracket mount holes. Drill 2 more holes in the flat steel for the cable mount and bolt up.Adjust the clutch. The operation of the clutch is light and the Brumby is a delight to drive with the 5 speed. Flexdrive in Melbourne did the cable mods for us for about $200. Ouch!

Well done. Shame you fell for the advice to use the L pedal. Hope you did not try to fit the L pedal box as well. No more sloppy gear shifter of the 4 speed :) I had no trouble with cable adjustment with the bits from a 91 L wagon into my 84 Brumby, nor any cable mods but mounting supports were altered at the pedal box end
