stronger Constant-velocity joints (cv's) subaru brumdy
i have 1990 brumby, lifted on 27's
it had a lot to do with my driving style at the time but i have destroyed 3 rear outer cvs.
im not having any trouble with the shafts i need stronger cups.
any help is appreciated, im thinking either somthing stronger off somthing elce? or a hose clamp around the cup to stop it bananaing

My outer CV's go quickly too.
But mine don't crack/knock when turning mine knock when going 40km/h or slower in a straight line. (pretty annoying but its an excuse to go fast, sorry officer my car sounds like shit when im driving too slow :P)

only cracked one i ever had was front left with L-arm conversion with extra spring lift so big angle... even still it only broke when in front wheel drive and took off too quick so the front wheel bounce effectively broke the bearing cage...
oh and nice vid gumby brumby but i think you need a limo rear or weld it :P then you'll kill those spots when u have no traction at the front end and only 1 rear is spinning...

i have been using drive pro shafts, 150 somthing each from my local drive shaft specialist and he said he cant got anything stronger.
2coupedup, this limo read you speek of, what is it? welding is my next option.
ive worked out why i keep breaking them, its when i flex out, going up hill, 1 rear spins and i either roll back or it comes back to earth, it just bananas the outer. i will get some pics on here soon and more vids

limo rear as in if you are lucky enough to score a lsd for the rear in the right ratio for you g\box, i assume 4sp d\r box so probly 3.7 ratio diff...
if you weld the rear diff you have to remove a cv shaft. to prevent binding on road/ hard surfaces...
i want to weld mine but its my daily driver so not practical...

I welded mine in my daily driver. The biggest thing to get over is having to get out to put the shaft in to go 4wd'n. The next big thing to get over is where you can get it... stuck.2coupedup wrote: i want to weld mine but its my daily driver so not practical...
As for the LSD. If you find one that is not the same diff ratio you can swap out the centre into your current rear diff. There's a thread on here somewhere, think it was written by Andrew_T.
Bugger about the cups shattering - sure your rear diff is hanging low enough so that the shaft isn't on an extreme angle when the wheel is at full drop? That could be the real issue here... I didn't break any shafts while running the welded diff - and I gave it some! It only came out for a trip to the snow...

I made some sleeves that press on around the cv cups out of some steam pipe of similar id as the od of the cvs.
Never had another breakage after that mind you these were in my brumby with rwd only with about 240hp going to rear wheels this was just a tad slippery on every surface in anything under 3rd
