Forester 2.5 flywheel change?

Post by subanator » Tue Dec 27, 2005 12:15 am

My brother has bought an '03 Forester 2.5X about 3 months back. He just had it in for a "recall" for a flywheel change. He said it was due to the wrong flywheel fitted on the first 2.5 models, and apparently a lighter one is in there now. Was wondering what is known about this and why?

2.5's around that age had dual mass clutch assemblies with a floating flywheel arrangement. It is a crazy looking setup and is hard to explain what it looks like. Either way they didn't work too well and need to be replaced with a conventional clutch. Surprised they are doing warranty on them though.

I had the Flywheel and Clutch replaced on my 03 XS Forester (75,000kms) on 20-03-2006 as it had a rattle when releasing the clutch in 1st gear.

City Subaru in Newstead (Brissy) did the job as they were recommended to me by The Subaru Shop in Brendale which is a TOP place for having your Subaru Serviced.

subanator does your brother still have a copy of the recall letter that you/he could scan and post in here thanks, not just for my sake but for all other interested parties too.

Subyroo sorry my brother never got a recall notice. It was probably due to buying the car as the second owner, the original owner would have recieved it?

Apparently he took the car in to be serviced, they mentioned to him that it required mods to clutch and flywheel. My brother said a squealling noise loud like a fanbelt slipping. Was told it was something to do with clutch spring tension. His car was to their "guinea pig" as they hadnt done one before.
jzk25 mentioned in his post above of the other setup. Maybe this was what had been done - converted?

They did the job. PM me if you want my brothers details or contact number.

Thanks subanator I'll give them a ring and see what happens.

Here's a list of the parts that they replaced on mine:

1 x SU12345AA002 Dual-Mass Flywheel
1 x SU30100AA671 No KUU Noise D/Mass C/PLA

1 x SU44059AA010 Bolt Centre Exhaust Pipe (must have been missing?)
1 x SU28024AC020 Boot Band (leaking inner CV Clamp)
1 x SU806786040 Rear Oil Seal (slight leak on the old one)
