'90 Subi. Brumby running unleaded?

Can I run my (soon to be in my possesion) 1990 Subaru Brumby on unleaded fuel or do I have to use additives?

SSSM welcome to the board your 1990 brumby is designed to run on unleaded petrol no additives needed

I'm lead to believe all car manifactured after 1987 were all designed to run on unleaded. The main thing needed is a Catalytic Converter to burn unburnt fuel. Pretty much any Suby was designed to run on unleaded fuel as leaded fuel was banned in Japan in the late 70s

That's not the reason for a catalytic converter.

It's a 3 way chemical reaction.

Cat converters do what they say, turn HC, CO and NOX into N, H2O, CO2 and O2. They will still do this with leaded fuel, but with an extremely short life because leaded fuel poisons the catalyst.

All flat four Subaru engines can use unleaded regardless of the year of manufacture. They all have alloy heads with hardened valve seats.

Oh thanks Gary.. I know that's what a Cat does but I've always been thought that it's there because when unburnt unleaded fuel hits hot exhaust system it turns into poisonous/carcinogenic/ozone depleting gasses. So when I called it burning.. I was just making it simple instead of having to run a science leason course.

yes use unleaded...but these motors run sooo much better on PULP - esp in summer

Whilst you all are here, what material is best for making a soft tonneau cover for my beast? I cant afford a brand new one at the moment, and i'm not having any luck with any second hand ones. Also, my Brumby has a roll bar installed, so I would need to work around it, and i figured it would be easier, quicker, and cheaper, to make one myself as opposed to having it measured up and made by a shop. So anyhoo, any suggestions on material?

Some nice soft vinyl works a treat. I had a quote to make a new one for my Brumby.. with all the clips and stuff, it came to $220

We got one made for Sunnie the Brumby - it was about the same cost and they only needed the car for a day during business hours. Dropped it off in the morning, picked it up after work on the same day. Great result.

You can't go past a professionally produced tonneau cover

Have seen a nice custom tarp on a brown beige ute that was almost same colour, very well made - so much so the stitcher had his name and number on a small tag

Seen about three of these browny beige utes all in very smart nick recently and the colour is growing on me - just what is the name of this beige ? anyone?

you could take some measurements from a brumby tonneau cover, get a tonneau from a larger vehicle, steal your mums sowing machine and stitch one up.

Im sure your mum would love the damage it would cause to her singer.
