Haha nah the hijacking is cool. Just make sure that if it escalates into violence you take it outside. Im assuming physical violence in the forums is against forum etiquette as well? :-)

Ummmm yes topic at hand.... Ah yes my Brumby's fuel (still hasn't turned up yet, bloke cashed the cheque last Thursday, the money left my account 5 minutes later and it's not due to be paid out until Wednesday, bleedin' thieving banks, anyhoo...) one last question, I assume PULP is meaning premium unleaded? And if so (if it does run better on PULP as stated) is it much more expensive than plain every-day-old unleaded?

Thanks, SSSM

PULP generally refers to 98 Octane fuel, either Shell V-Power or BP Ultimate. Not to be confused with the 95 Octane that is also offered.

In my neck of the woods, the rule of thumb is that PULP is around 10c/L more than standard unleaded. So to fill (give or take) a Brumby's 55L tank would set you back $5.50 more. That will answer your query on how much more it will cost, but there is a bigger picture. You can screw a few degrees more timing out of your ignition which will wake your EA81 up some (someone will have to give a definitive limit here- standard is 6° and I think you could go for 12° safely), and if you can resist the urge to enjoy this new found peppiness you'll also get more kilometres per tank than with regular unleaded.

I started running my Brumby on PULP the day I got it, and within about two full tanks and even with no timing adjustments there was a noticeable improvement in range and performance. Definitely recommend doing it.

Just out of curiosity, how many k's do you average out of a tank? Say, if you were driving it like a P Plater at 90k and it wasnt working too hard? :???:

K`s per tank

Post by phil nelis » Tue Dec 07, 2010 7:22 pm

Evening gentlemen, i have a std `92 ag quip brumby, the usual 1800 ea81 4spd 3.7 diff. I average around brisvegas through the week and touring/4wding on w/ends 620k per tank. Have only ever run pulp and std tune up. Just done 275k service, replaced dizzy cap, rotor button, all 5 leads, air filter, front and rear fuel filters, dropped eng oil,new filter, drained radiator & scavenger tank, full flush out,new coolant, new belts for alt/water pump&power/steer,new thermo & gaskets, renewed p/st fluid, just fuelled up so we will see if we get improvement to mileage over next couple of weeks once it all settles in.

Thanks Phil, much appreciated, thats also a good list of things I will go over on mine when it turns up. Mines done just over 288000 k's, although the oil was good as well as having good new filters etc so its been recently serviced, but I dont know how thoroughly.
I am not very mechanically knowledgeable (as yet, apprenticeship starts on Monday ;-) ), so what is a dizzy cap, a rotor button, which leads are you reffering to, and what is a thermo? The rest I know, just not those few things.

Much appreciated to all, SSSM

My tank usually gets me a good highway run or the first 1/3rd or so, followed by some town driving and trip or two off road. 600kms+ is usually the norm.
I'll be interested in seeing the changes if/when I slap a Weber on!
