Help Identifying Valve Body

Post by bjm » Tue May 31, 2011 4:42 pm

There seems to be some issues with regards to the origin of my trans. I thought Legacy TT boxes had the same valve body and transfer as an SVX box but now I'm not so sure.

We have any issue where only 1st and 2nd gears can be selected. The selector can be moved to the detent for 3rd and 4th but the gears don't actually engage.

I have taken some pictures of my original valve body both in and out of the car and want to know if anyone can identify the box type by the valve body. It is definately a VTD transfer on the box.

Is this scott's box or some other box that you have had rebuilt?

It is indeed Scotts old box.
I've only just got it going but am only getting two forward gears.

Mate it is not an SVX box. they ran a 3.7 final drive ratio. This was definately a 4.44

Who did the box mods for you? What do they have to say about all this?

I know it's not an SVX box but as far as my research tells me an SVX box and a TT box should be internally the same (besides final drive ratio). The issue I'm having is with the current valve body we can't select 3rd and 4th gears. Now what I'm led to believe is the SVX box has an "overdrive" solenoid that needs to be energized to allow 3rd and 4th to be engaged. This sounds like the problem I'm having (box in 4th gives 70km/hr at 4500rpm).

What I'm trying to determine is, is it possible one of the workshops that has worked on the box has fitted the wrong valve body when it's apart.

I'm having the valve body taken out and sent back for testing but that won't help if it's the wrong one...

Valve body has been on the test jig and confirmed working. It seems the problem with it not shifting into 3rd and 4th is coming from within the trans itself. I'm guessing it's not going to be cheap to find out where the problem is but I have no choice, I have to press on with this box because of the amount of time and effort already invested in it.
