manual gearbox dip stick same as auto ?

hey guys

got a mate to grab me a dip stick for my manual gearbox in my 91 l series (found out yesterday mine was missing) from the wreckers he brought me back a stick prob only 4 inchs long from same type of car but failed to check if it was auto or manual i have no clue if its the rite one?

any ideas?

fits fine but doesnt register oil maybe it needs oil? maybe i need a longer stick lol.

The two cars I have (Brumby 4 speed D/R and 02 WRX) have dipsticks longer than 4 inches.
