I just spent the weekend in Gero doing headgaskets on Ken's Gen3 Outback and just about pulled my hair out trying to find out why the car was not starting and backfiring through the throttle body.. turned out to be water in the main harness. The 2 engine plugs at the back of the drivers side cylinder head got a tad wet and we wasted about 3 hours trying to find the fault.
You know you are getting old when the candles on your birthday cake start to cost more than the cake itself.

Really??

Well we can give it a shot. Today Dave called me saying it backfired a few times after finally starting and was making a noise that sounded like piston slap.. :-?

Doesn't sound too good!

Ok the starting up has been getting worse and now when it does finally start at cold the idle revs start at ~1800, and instead of slowly dropping to sit at ~700 like normal, the idle revs drop rapidly and the engine just dies.

I checked the codes again and now there is one, 45 which i believe is atmospheric pressure sensor?

What the hell is that and how do i fix it?
