This could be a good thing - if the tolerances are within spec a hone and new rings sound like they'll do the job.Subydoug wrote:Deffinately been apart before. I can still see the cross-hatching in the bores. hit a bit of a snag though fella's. I think Im gonna have to put it back together this weekend, rebuild or not. Either that or get another car.
So what's the go with needing a car? Do what I've done and nic a mate's!
Cheers

Too late now mate. She all back together and running, purring like a kitten to be more correct
. Had a bit of a blond moment though. All back together. Pump up the oil with ignition disconnected, plug in ign, fire it up and its running like shit, coffing, missing like a son bitch, and to top it off its making this horrible ear-piercing screech of metal on metal. Hmmmm, looking under the bonnet. Whats going on?? Must have an foul-ed plug or something stupid....hmmm, well that would do it! had cylinders 2 and 4 backwards off the dizzy. Flipped them, fired up straight away, running good. Now to find the screecher. Turned out to be one of the original airbox's mounting brackets was rubbing on the alternator fan. Bent it back out of the way and all was well in the world. Took it for a rap up the freeway. no smoke and surprisingly more torque than I think it had before. I have a very crude way of telling which I wont tell you guys because it will make you cringe
. Going to pop the rocker covers back off tomorrow morning, re-torque the heads down and check my tappers.
Off topic, went and met up with a buddy. He has a 1973 Ford Escort coupe with a 2ltr Ford focus motor in it. Took me for a spin in it. Wholy shit!! Total vehicle mas wet with driver = 810kg. Power reading from Dyno = 170hp. Things a bloody weapon! Il see if I cant snap some piccies if anyone is interested.
Back to the Old Subie, Will probably pull the motor back out in a few months and finish the job. New rings and Pistons if needed and Il have a peep at the bearings on the crank.
Thanks for all your help fella's
Doug
