Does anyone know weather all MY98 WRXs came out with a LSD.
Did the auto?

Yep.. All Aussie delivered GC8 (Turboed Impreza code) came out with Viscous LSD. The early ones came with male shafts sticking out, whilst the later models required male spline shafts on the inner CV Joint.
This applies to auto and manuals but you have to remember they both have different ratios. What are you tying to do?

You can buy a 4.11 LSD out of a imported WRX or do the swap like you're thinking, either way you'll need the 2 cv shafts for it, as they will be different to yours.

I has both types from the import GC8 rally cars.
From what I've found over the years is that after late 1994 they went over to the male splines on the CV joint/shafts but either way, you're going to need new inner joits as the VLSD has an extra spline on one of the joints and the clip/groove is in a different place on the other joint.
I'd just saying, when buying the LSD diff (what ever ratio you buy) make sure you get the correct cv shafts to match the diff. Crownwheel and pinions can be swapped but the shafts cannot. If you are swapping the CW & P, I'd recommend you replace bearings and crush tube.

Ok now I'm really quite confused.
Pulled a diff out of a WRX at the wreckers.
It came out of a WRX so you would assume LSD
Both shafts spin in the same direction as you would assume for an LSD
Was some slip when holding one wheel and turning the other as you would assume for an LSD.
However when I opened the back of the diff, there was no viscous center
looks like a normal open diff.
Does definitely not behave like an open diff. What have I got :s
Not welded.
I have seen somewhere someone saying about an open style LSD but thought it was bull@#*$ . Any Ideas?

Sounds like a 'Hydratrak' diff. They work good but are a PITA on the wet stuff.
As for kms from your LSD, it depends on how its looked after service wise.
