hi guys,

both boxes are auto, one is 97, one is 99, both are from outbacks. but ones the newer shape.
I have a gen2 box and i want to fit it in the gen3. will it fit?

gen2 box tz102z3dba-kh
gen3 box tz1a42faba-wj

I hope someone knows:)

Physically yes
Wiring may be an issue
do you have the TCU to go with the older box ?
It may work or you may need the TCU or you may need to change wiring as well as TCU.
Stick it in and see :)

Nope. 97 box is what they call the phase 1 box, 99 will be phase 2 and will have a screw on oil filter on the passenger side. Different TCU and valvebody, not swappable unless you swap the loom and TCU as well
