'92 Liberty rear Diff bearing gone.

Post by chinski » Sun Oct 13, 2013 1:05 pm

G'day ! i've got a '92 Liberty rear Diff fitted to my EJ20T Brumby, noticed a vibration while driving & noise that sounded like a bearing rumble.

jacked up car & found the drivers side inner CV is moving around alot inside the diff ( see pics), if anyone knows how difficult this job is to complete or where i might find parts, that would be great !

cheers
chinski :)

Very rear for the diff bearings to go but it's possible. I'd drop into your local bearing place like CBC or SKF and see if they do a kit. I use a local crowd but they are not over east.

The inner cv joint usually has some movement but without seeing it first hand, it's hard to say if yours has a problem.

I took the Brumby to a Subaru specialist on the Gold Coast here ( not dealership) who have done & owned afew EJ20T brumbys themselves.

the movement i thought was a major issue , is normal ! the roll pin in the CV splines is where the movement pivots from & is normal, so glad i took it somehwere instead of just ripping the diff out & apart only to find its fine !

he said my vibration is most likely tailshaft as it needs to be a 2 piece, he said he chased a vibration in his ej20 brumby for years & the 1 piece tailshaft just doesn't work in them ! strange !

anyway little brumby is running sweet for now , whooooo !!
