EJ SOHC exhaust port size
I'm after the diametre of the EJ22 exhaust port size where the exhaust extractors bolt to the head. Only because typing this request out is easier than removing the exhaust, measuring, cleaning everything then having to refit the exhaust...
Also, are the EJ20 exhaust ports (and heads) the same as the EJ22. I'm talking early stuff here - my EJ22 is the "phase II" with red injectors, I've got an EJ20 bitza engine from the first Impreza -1994? and was wondering if they were the same heads/exhaust diametre.
Cheers

I have an EJ22 (not sure which version, I'll check) and an EJ20 sohc both sitting in the shed, both with extractors removed. I'll bust the vernier out for you when I get home in the next couple of hours.

I measured one this morning for you (thank me for going out to the shed in the 3 degree cold)
the exhaust port internal measures 34mm, measured at 90 degrees to each measurement using my vernier.
How ever I did notice a large build up of carbon on the vernier when removed from the port. So I used a standard measuring tape and got 36mm at the flat of the head. (measures taken at 90 degrees to each other)

36mm on the '92 ej22, 35-36mm on '98 ej20 (Forrie). Must be a bit of carbon or the casting is a bit uneven. Castings have slightly different numbers and markings. The cams swap between the heads, but you have to change the rocker gear too. The Lib motor has HLAs and the Forrie has roller followers. I haven't pulled the heads off to compare combustion chambers yet.

I'm 99% sure that only the EJ16 had the smaller exhaust headers and the others had the same. Some of the later ones had a different design where the position of the cat and the collector joint is placed.
How did you go Bennie?
