I want to recon my GB

Post by KERAZY » Mon Aug 14, 2006 9:45 pm

gerrrday.

as you may be well aware already, yes, i am jesus. and because of this, i command you all to tell me how to fix my gearbox.

its a 4spd manual from an MY sportswagon, and i think maybe the linkages are worn cos its reeeeeeeeeeeeaaaal sloppy-like. thats how i bought it. would it be safe to assume that it is, or am i completely wrong?

the real question though, is 'could i fix it myself, or would it be better to just get it reconditioned?'

P.S. I apoligize for the blasphemy

can't help with your religous needs nor what party pill you pop...

MY box gearlever slop comes from the roll pin 'fit' on the shaft at the back of the box up top for 1 2 3 4 selection. The little pivot at the very base of ya gearstick can also contribute i think it is a rubber thing

Yeah it's an easy fix.

Rather than explain it all to you, I'll post this link that says how to do it. Credit where credit's due, well written Subeman90 from USMB.

PS: Can you ask your dad to send us some snow?

How a linkage issue has been sorted it to remove the selector carriage and cut off the lower half of it then bolt it back together using a bolt with a locknut then as it wears you just tighten the bolt

The long road ahead

you mean is? not it?

you reckon itd be a good idea to buy another 4spd gearbox for like 50 bucks, work on that til its almost perfect (maybe heighten the pivot point of the gear selector for a short-throw effect?) and then once im done that, replace it, and work on the other one and use it as a spare or sell it?

In my humble opinion it wouldn't really be worth it for practicality's sake, but the experience you'd obtain from such a task would be invaluable.

I think it will depend on how much time you've got on your hands.

believe me, with no work available round these parts for a person like me, and school shit being so damn easy, i got a whole heap of time. if i do one right ill probably sell it on here. the experience would be for the most part the reason why id do it, otherwise id just get someone else to do it.

No work in WA? That'd be the first time I'd heard that.
