safe to drive in fwd?
safe to drive in fwd?
changed my 4eat out for a dual-range impreza gearbox...
had to shorten the driveshaft... now there is a slight vibration when reving above 3500rpm...
I'd like to try to disconnect the driveshaft and drive the car in fwd to check if the vibration goes away... I'm guessing it's either the flywheel or the driveshaft that causes the vibration so this would show me which one it is...
is it ok to take out the driveshaft and drive around in fwd or might it damage the gearbox?

did you also change the front shafts for the swap ? the inner joint can cause a vibration
once thought of trying this myself and got to the idea stage - that a pressure pack can plastic lid jammed over rear seal and sealed up with silastic , left 24hrs to set and...should work !
Your Icelandic mates were on our telly last night. TOP GEAR featured the V8 nitrous fed quarry monsters with the paddle tyres. One guy raced across 500m of lake, doing the Moses trick with a runnoff, the tyres paddling across - flat out. Amazing what almost constant daylight will do to man after almost constant darkness !!

oh yeah... I completely forgot about that...tim_81coupe wrote:The driveshaft is part of what seals the rear of the box, without it you'll end up with a puddle of fluid on the ground. So no, I wouldn't recommend it!
If its rev related it's more likely engine or clutch related..
I'll just have to run some other tests to figure out what's wrong...

hehe... yeah... but seeing these cars on TV is one thing... being there is a totally different story! Your knees litteraly shake when these monsters drive by on slow revs... and then when they open the throttle - you're on your way to heaven...subi wrote:that topgear ep was awesome. i want one of those 8 chev buggies to drive on water with!
