EJ22 headwork Perth

Post by robdddd » Tue Oct 17, 2006 3:55 pm

Can anyone recommend a Perth head reconditioning place?

I finally got around to looking under the bonnet again........car had sat ther since Dave and Tim came to look....I connected compressed air up to the sparkplug hole and at top dead centre with valves closed there was air coming out of the exhaust!

Took the head off and found the culprit, a chipped exhaust valve.

Interesting thing is that the bores look like they have been honed, I wouldn't have expected to see the cross hatching? The timing belt also looked fairly new and the head came off really easily, the gasket wasn't all stuck to both sides. I THINK THIS HAS BEEN REBUILT SOMETIME NOT SO LONG BEFORE THE VALVE WENT....... I bought it condition unknown but cheap!

Also contemplating if I should take the other head off and have a look…the engine is out of the car so not too difficult....also now wondering if the bottom end was rebuilt?

Still deciding if I go the cheap or $$ rebuild

PS North of the river if possible..................also years back I had work done by Harris Engines? they do hotted up VW stuff anyone know if they are OK?

I've pulled down EA82's that have 300,000k on the clock and they still have hone marks apparent. I have been assured these engines have not been rebuilt before i got to them...

Do a rebuild, that way you know what's been done.

WaggaClint did mine... AWESOME mechanic... AWESOME guy... engine has not missed a beat since he did my complete rebuild.

I don't know if he is interested in doing another engine rebuild but he is one of the only people i would trust to do any of my motors.

Drop him a PM or something.

Dave
