Brumby gearbox
Brumby gearbox
does anyone know how to split the gearbox on a brumby? I have undone all the bolts, the front part of the box wants to come apart but not the back?

Yes, I've disconnected the low range linkage, taken out the transfer case bolts. The front of the diff / gearbox housing wants to come apart but it seems like it's really tightly together at the back. I tried both tapping & levering it but it just won't move. The last gearbox I did was a roadranger & it was a lot easier.

the two halves won't come apart until you have got the rear section off, and you need to undo a big nut at the back end of main casing. The access hole to this nut is more squashed egg shape and won't allow standard socket access, more a ground down socket. If you can find Brumby49 on ebay he may have time to tell you, he has rebuilt many of these swapping all sorts of stuff into them as a past time - he enjoys it !!!
after pulling one apart with a jigsaw for enlarging the socket access hole
and a block buster (just to try to 'open sesame' ) i do NOT wanna try again, let alone put one back together and rely on it to work.
these are not gearboxes, they are japanese torture puzzles !!
