What new pistons avail for EA82T ?
computer is a microtech LT-8, set up with a reluctor type pickup to use a standard ea82 magnetic pickup disy. i fitted and tuned it myself. the computer has its own loom which you cut to fit and hookup to injectors, water temp sender, disy, module and coil. fairly easy install. heads are standard, gaskets are the cheap acl type. i run a liberty rs water to air intercooler. ive got heaps of photos but dont know how to post em. injectors are standard, and are touching 100 percent duty at 6500rpm at 15psi with a rising rate fuel pressure reg at 70psi. ive got some vl turbo injectors that ive got to put in the ultrasonic bath and then fit and tune again to suit, hopefully this time at more sane fuel pressures. i dont know how much power it makes, its never seen a dyno, i didnt see the point.

No actually , its lying in the padoick at a wreaker and I just pulled off one of the heads to have a look . Will be back eventually so if someone can tell me if there is a special tool to remove the hex head plugs and gudgeon pins I'll pull one out and another from an NA EA82 that already has one head off .
The thing I don't know is the valve angle differences and piston to valve clearances between EA81/82 .
Cheers A .

to get the plugs out you will need a 14mm allen key, thay can be real tight. but i dont like your chances of getting the piston pin out with the motor in the car, they are always stuck real good, can be a struggle sometimes even on the bench with a slide hammer. although, every once in a while they just about fall out easy as with a pair of pliers.

I'm running flat top pistons in my EA82 MPFI, on the side of the box it said EA71 from memory, i'll check it up tomorrow. The pistons looked the same as eachother except the new ones were flat top... Maybe i'm setting myself up for some bent valves if a cam-belt goes?jono wrote:mine are flat top in my EA81 , but did you compare gudgeon pin to top as being the same on the 82 ? I have not, so don't know, but it is a consideration
And the pistons were from ACL (i'll double check that too).
The engine goes so much better than the last one in up-hill pull, fuel economy and acceleration (got a surging problem though

Hope this is of some value (i could go speak to the guy i bought the piston heads and rings from - he did my re-bore and measuring for new bearings etc - ask him what he thinks in a turbo application and if he has a part number).
Also, what's the difference in the turbo con rod and NA con rod?
Cheers
