Bell Housing sand intake

Just bought my first 91 L Series. I'm up in Queensland from Melbourne and would like to go out on Fraser Island tomorrow. In the 91's, do I need to do any mods to the hosing to ensure sand doesn't get into the gearbox? And will a stock 91 be able to take on Fraser Island, or is it going to be too torn up on the inland tracks from all the backpackers. Cheers!
