Which Coolant?
Which Coolant?
This may seem an obvious question, but which coolant should I be using for an EA82?
Went to supercheap a few days back and the man in store reccon'd I should use Type B (the more expensive), which is made for vehicles past 1986 or something. Ok cool.
But my dad picked up some coolant today for his car (type a), which says "suitable for most engines". Is there a difference? Does one cool better than the other? Will one cause more corrosion than the other?
Thanks,

There are 2 main types
Anti freeze/anti boil inhibitor coolant - which contains an amount of ethel glycol which raises the boiling and lowers the freezing point and also prevents corrosion
And Inhibitor coolant - which simply prevents corrosion
I buy the premixed inhibitor coolant cos i dont like adding minserised tap water to my engine. It doesnt get cold enough here to warrant the anitfreeze

I've been using 'Castrol anti-freeze anti-boil engine coolant concentrate', which comes in a 2.5 litre container. I dilute it to 50% with demineralised water bought from the supermarket and haven't had any problems.

yeah,i think the cheaper stuff just doesnt have glycol in it. It is said to reach the 1997class a standards for anti-corrosion which probably means it will be alright. I live in brissie so anti-freeze is useless, and i do watch the temp gauge carefully whilst driving so the anti-boil may just be an extra measure. I was just wondering what the difference was, i dont want to add to the corrosion problems i already have.
