Hey Kris,

Cracked heads i'm guessing? Prob best bet is to strip down an engine at pick a part and take a good set of heads from them, get them pressure tested and shaved if needed... This would most likely cost less than half the price of that quote for both heads.

I got my heads shaved and tested for $60 each.

Cheers

Bennie

PS other option is to check out places in regional "cities", they may be out of town a little bit but most likely won't have the same demand for attention as the city shops... might be worth a try ;)

If they were cracked, go to wreckers and find another set of un-cracked heads and get them machined they can be around $45 upwards each. Better than paying $750 for it!!!!

What about a ea82T head they would be harder to find 2nd hand i'd imagine, i'm told the rx turbos are prone to head cracks after a while and I have a 2nd rx off the road which most certainly has a cracked head but was quoted up to 2k to fix it.

Any advice on a cheaper solution or cheap parts!

all head, try them yet. When i dealt with them they had normal efi heads that they drilled and tapped to suit turbo.

Hey they are cracked between the valves in the center all four heads that I have hear but that seems to be the only place. Its not much concern now it I got a 89 fuel injected L series for $500 which is a one owner female it whole life 211000Ks just needs some minor maintaince. That was a lot cheaper than geting the head repaired and now I have fuel injection.
cheers

With EA82 heads...

If they are cracked between the valve seats, its generally not a problem. The majority of the time the cracks are only superficial.

If they are cracked through to the waterjacket and leak coolant, replace the heads, they will only cause you trouble

Never heard of the twin exhaust ports, you sure you're not meaning twin inlet ports? These are found on any MPFI or MPFI trubo motors. There's little difference between them, just don't use the turbo cams if you pick them up too.

Check out the Thread in the Engine, gearbox and diff section or the Conversions section. It will be a "sticky" and titled something like "fitting an EJ to an older MY or L series subaru". That'll have plenty of info there, including me dreaming about a turbo in my L. Should answer some q's and get a few more raised.

Basically the short answer is yes, a WRX engine will fit in an L with some work.
