Hey Frog: Where are you getting most of your parts from? other than Head Gaskets which i will get genuine i'm looking to rebuild my ej25 this week. It all went bad this arvo as the Chemi Weld finally gave up and i had to be towed home. This will be my second set of head gaskets.

Thanks Mad Mat

block

Post by FROG » Sat Jan 19, 2008 9:46 am

just got the call from my engine builder :D my block is ready yay
went 020 thou oversize got new pistons and rings (hastings?) cost me $400 for the o'size pistons and $200 to bore block vss got fitted for free

so now a shameless plug for Paul at PTS auto and aero engineering here in Griffith for all his help and advice TOP BLOKE

got a lot of work left to get it all back together

cant wait to find some mud

note to all high milage ej22 owners -- wiring harness under intake manifold had rubbed thru the split tubing and had NEARLY rubbed through to the wires on the underside -- just something to be aware of
cheers
Andy

done!!!

Post by FROG » Fri Jan 25, 2008 2:30 pm

Shes all back in and running took her out for a test drive last night :-D

there is a noticable power improovement (as i had hoped)

still got a little hla tick should have that sorted this weekend  SORTED YAY

but overall im very happy :D

blew the budget big time as i wasnt expecting the block to be rotted out
basically i scrounged a second hand block had it bored out .020"
splashed out on oversize pistons and rings and the usual gaskets and o rings, heads were cleaned and skimmed with new valve stem seals fitted

i gapped the rings myself :D boring job but well worth the effort i took advice from Paul at PTS auto and aero engineering
he gave me specs that will suit my off road driving (extra thou clearance in the bores and a couple extra on the ring gap)

sorry but couldnt do the pics thing as my camera died and all my coin is now sitting in my engine bay

from the time i got all the parts in the workshop it took two of us 14 hours to rebuild it together with an awfull lot of alcohol

ive disconnected my heater core as i dont trust it (used to gargle under the dash) made a steel u bend to rejoin

ive kinda lost track of the cost but i seem to be a couple of grand at least lighter than i was before

BIG THANKS TO ALL THOSE WHO DID OFFER ADVICE AND HELPED OUT JUST FOR THE SHEER FUN OF IT
CHEERS GUYS

one very happy frog
"ribbet ribbet"
now then wheres the rain ?
