inlet gasket

anyone had experience with replacing gaskets? should i use sealant when i put on new inlet gaskets or do they not require sealant?

It says in the repair manuals "gasket sealant not required"

I didnt use any on mine (ACL gasket kit) and i havent had any problems in the 16 months since i rebuilt it

well i suppose the gasket should compact and seal well enough if the bolts and done up tight enough. I'd hate to replace them and get air sucking in.

I've always used genuine inlet gaskets from subaru and never had a problem. I do this because of advice from one of dad's old mechanic mates. He's had problems with aftermarket gaskets failing between the inlet port and the coolant passage.

I usually use a little bit of sealant and scrape the surfaces clean before fitting it all back together...
