I know a2.2 will fit in mt 87 gl wagon but will a 2.5 fit in also?

So a 2.5 Forrester engine will fit in a Brumby as well then?

not necessarily for an MY based car such as a Brumby, the chassis rails are much more narrow than an L series.
An EJ25 will only fit if it is the single over-head cam version of the engine (1 cam per head). The Quad-cam version will require the chassis rails to be custom widened to gain enough clearance for the timing belt covers.
*edit* - I (think) Foresters have the single over-head cam version of this engine, possibly only some models of Outback have the quad cam.... but best to double check this, I am unsure.
