Hi,
I have just picked up a new L series touring wagon. its in need a new gearbox, but am not having much luck getting wreckers to call me back about getting one.
I live in Canberra and was wondering if anyone else had to source one locally or even semi locally that has been sucessfull.
I am in a bit of a hurry to get the car on the road, as i havent got any transport at the moment till its back on the road. So any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

anyone should ask you what is the diff ratio sticker on the back end of the rear diff in order to match up your front diff in gearbox, 3.7:1 or 3.9:1. I bought a whole car mainly for its gearbox and related bits, that way I got to test drive the box before installing it so no nasty surprises.

the people i've spoken to seem to know what they are talking about. I was asked what the ratio was (mine has a 3.7:1), which i didnt understand why at the time so thanks for that, matching the front diff never even crossed my mind lol. But i'll keep at them to get back to me.
Cheers

If you get wrong ratio it'll seize up the gearbox because it doesnt have centre diff.
If in worst case, there is a few in melbourne going from 88 to 160 bucks each from pick-a-part style wrecker (you'll have to pull it out from the car yourself)
Cheers
