In a Gen2 with its DOHC EJ25, probably not.

In a Gen3 with the SOHC EJ25, maybe. It might involve undoing the engine mounts and lifting the engine a few inches

i might be wrong, i don't know about sohc, i think you can change it while its in car.
Based on EJ22 You can change the gaskets while in car, without moving anything. I suspect EJ25 SOHC should be the same. But with DOHC it might be more complicated?

bit fiddly i'd imagine.... I've done plugs a few times on dohc and h6 engines, I reckon anything is possible with patience.

The covers are aluminium alloy aren't they? when they are off you should polish them.... I know nobody will see them but its just a fun thing to have shiny shiny mirror finish bits on your engine lol.

Can do it in the car.
The very rear, lower bolt on the LH side is the biggest PITA to get to out of the lot of them. Easiest to get it from underneath and you'll need a spanner as a socket won't fit between the cover and chassis rails.
