EJ25 Timing belt kit... where did you get yours.

Im starting to source parts for the 200,000km service on my Outback.

So far the parts i need are..

Timing belt kit (including tensioner)
Radiator hoses
Thermostat
Waterpump
Cam cover seals
Ignition leads
Spark plugs
Engine, diff and auto transmission fluid
Air, fuel and oil filters

I will also be replacing the brake fluid. Do i need to check the tappets?

Where did you get your parts?

I priced the timing belt kit at the local auto spares shop and it was almost $600

Can i do any better? Maybe from overseas? What about genuine?

Any suggestions and discussion are welcome

Timing Tensioner is not required to replace as it will be okay.
If you're replacing Cam seals, you might as well replace crank seal to be on same age.
Water Pump/Thermostat is worth replacing saves headache in 20,000kms time.

Where did I get my parts from?
I got timing belt kit from CBC for $200 (all bearings and belt)
Water Pump from Subaru was $104 (EJ22)
Crank/Cam Seals was from CBC I think they were like $6 each
Sparkplugs was from Bursons $12 each NGK irginam (spelling)
Coolant - used Nulon
Castrol MultiTex Manual Oil
Castrol Magnetic
I didnt replace radiator hoses in my 300,000km service.. same with belts which I need to do.
Air Filter is VN-VS Commodore filter. $9
Ignition Leads - Bosch from Bursons cant remember the price..
So yeah its pretty much running all over the place sourcing parts and the prices were for Subaru Liberty EJ22..
Cheers

Edit: I did try looking for water pump over internet, I didnt feel comfortable for non-genuine pump or too expensive (genuine) to bring it in from overseas via ebay. so ended up buying from Subaru

I found a Dayco timing belt kit with tensioner on eBay for $405 ebay.com.au/SUBARU-LIBERTY-IMPREZA-TIMING-BELT-KIT

My mechanic recommended i replace the tensioner while we have the belt off. I might pull a cover off and see if it is leaking

Im replacing the cam cover seal (i edited the original post) cos they leak. Is it necessary to replace the cam and crank seals while i have the front of the engine off?

Were the ignition leads you got the same as genuine that seal in the hole and have a little handle on them?

Thanks

edit. Just found these ebay.com.au/subaru top gun spark plug leads, new

Fair enough,
seals - replace all of them (cam and crank) so they'll be at the same age, if you replace just one and other will/might leak next week, next month etc... you never know. For $6 seal! I'd do it..

Whats involved in replacing the seals? Just remove the cam sprockets and remove the seal, replace sprocket and all done?

FSM doesnt mention it.

stolen from the over enthusiastic haynes repair manual

Image

the bit that got cut off the above picture reads"... the crankshaft surface or the oil pump housing."

hope that helps

not a problem do you need section 6 (where they have written an epic story not unlike the old man and the sea ) which tells you how to get the timing belt off?

cant remember the ebay shop, but my twin cam 2.5 got a top overhaul kit for about $60 which had head gaskets too, and the timing belt was german made and about $50. i bought a couple belts. seems ok still, was from good ole usa. so i got cam seals, rocker covers, valve stem seals, and heaps more.

Really there is no need to take the cam out to do the seals.

All you need is a drill, and a screw and make a small hole in the seal and once the hole is made - use a screw to screw it in, pull it out with pliers then it'll come out.
To put it back in, best way is a pipe extact same size as the seal and push it back in hard, best is to oil around the seal to make it easier. You cant push it too far as it'll stop somewhere in there. Be careful with the spring around the seal as it can pop off if you're not too careful.
