You basically cut the wire to the 'Duty C Solenoid'

When the duty C solenoid has 12v, the multi plate clutch is open and makes the car FWD. When the duty C solenoid has 0v the mpt is closed and the car is full 4wd

If you cut the wire, it will make the TCU (transmission control unit) throw a code, so a dummy resistor will have to be added

There is a web page on a Forester owners forum that describes exactly how to do it

I'll see if i can dig it up for you

thanks for that..................I figured I dont necessarily want to do any hardcore offroad type stuff..................beach and mild bush mainly..........so an auto should suffice

If you are gonna do beach stuff, i suggest you get a transmission cooler

center diff lock mod

Post by Pato » Wed May 05, 2010 7:48 pm

Hi all I have just purchased my second outback an AT 2.5 2001 model. As this is our second car and bought fairly cheep I want to take it for a run on stockton beach, I do have beach driving experience and I will be prepaired with a recovery gear and another vehicle. I have read the thread on the other forum and will probably do this mod but I have some qustions.

1 im not sure if it has the 4EAT trany?

2 If so has any one in Australia done this mod?

3 Will it still go ok on the beach without the mod?

Any help or info is much appreciated
Cheers
Chris
