Clunky

Post by libertywagonrx » Wed May 19, 2010 7:34 pm

I have a 2000 Liberty RX wagon, and when I accelerate then take my foot off the accelerator, there is a horrible shudder/clunkyness, and this occurs again when I return to depress the accelerator. It seems to occur more often when below 3000-3500RPM, so if i rev harder in 2nd say to 5000RPM then take my foot off the problem doesn't occur, well not as severely. What could be causing this? A loose mount perhaps? or a problem in the gearbox?

Thanks for your thoughts!

I'd start by looking at mounts.. then CV joints :)

I vote your outer CV is stuffed on one side and is wobbling like a bit of limp spaggeti in its boot under acceleration it is all forced together under decelleration it is shimmying around like afforementioned spaggeti

Does it make that noise downhill at any speed? Is it manual?
Cheers

@libertywagonrx
when I accelerate then take my foot off the accelerator
Hey mate, have you got a quote yet to fix the problem, or even for just the parts themselves for a DIY job?

I have an issue on my 2000 Liberty RX 5-spd that I would describe exactly as you did.

Cheers,
Erik
