Any engines even EG33, EZ30 Ej25 etc etc can go in Liberty! Doesnt matter but do homework/research first & talk to engineers etc.

engine mounts are all fine.
Yes you have to fiddle with the wiring usually. If you are putting a different engine in you need to use the wiring loom and ecu that match it and then get it to work with the rest of the wiring in the car.
Gearboxes all fit but some might not be suitable. Like if you are putting a STI WRX engine into a front wheel drive GX, it will work but it'd be stupid. In that case you'd want to put a turbo awd gearbox in too.

Your very open ended questions demand novels to be written to give you a broad understanding. You are best off doing a few simple searches on the forum (and also other forums such as Rexnet, Perth-wrx, rslibertyclub.org) to get the fundamentals then ask questions specific to your particular situation.

Gearbox will mount up no problems, if its FWD behind turbo you'll find it a pain in the arse and a lot of people ended up adding awd in.
Also you need think about if its worth doing the project as well.

Very good point raised by AR there.
It might be worth considering selling the car and getting a Legacy or LibertyRS, or even a WRX.
Alot less work and the car will have a better resale value.
Depends what your priorities are.

Like alot of us you might have formed a certain attachment to your car and have a sense of pride after doing your own conversion which I understand 100%. It's also good to have piece of mind that you know your car back to front having done most of the bolts up yourself. Also it's the best way to learn how your car works too.
