Need advice please

Was driving though the city a couple of nights ago when my '89 l series died
Just lost all electrics like the battery had been disconnected suddenly
After spending abit of time looking over it I repaired a fuseable link (the black one that is at the top)
After that the car would crank but would not start, everytime I would crank it I could strongly smell fuel
I have only had it a couple of weeks and had a very rough run
If anyone could give me any advice I would be very thankful
Cheers, Aaron

Have you had anything installed since you've owned it? and I'd be checking all the fuses even the ones inside the cabin. I'd also start testing things like the coil for 12v power when the ignition is on. Do you have a test light?

Cheers for that mate

You repaired FL ? Try replacing it with like for like. It has always sorted my FL failures - due to corrosion.
Fuel smell may not be related to the electrical FL problem, maybe just flooding it as you crank? I try check integrity of your fuel hoses and filter. Charcoal cannisters get fuel to feed the fumes back to engine intake on high vacuum conditions - it may be leaking fumes to atmosphere?

Yer, when I lost all electrics I checked all the fuses to find that one of the links had broken....I I made up another one...The wire I used I reakon would be overkill but did the job, once it was repaired I had power again but it wouldn't start after that, it would crank but just would start....after reading though posts on here I am thinking it mite be my cam belt
Cheers for your time though mate, everything is helping at this point as im new to subarus lol

Easiest way to check is pull off the dissy cap and get someone to turn the ignition key to start.. while you watch the rotor button in the dissy.. if no turning then most likely a broken T/belt.
I was going to also say, if you didn't have test light then just pull off one of the spark plug leads and using an old spark plug, plug it in the lead and have it touch something earth on the engine (best not to be anywhere near the fuel system) and again have someone turn the key and you can watch for sparks.

Hey mate, thanks for the advice, went along way, I tested the dizzy and it still turns so can't be a drive belt now
However I pulled one of the spark plugs out to test it and no spark
From that would the problem be a ****ed dissy or coil?...I believe that this car had a new reconditioned coil put on about 3 months before I bought it but im starting to think that the owner was not a very honest fella
Once again thank you for taking the time to help me out on this

Dont think you could have a Ignition coil reconditioned, but maybe it has failed. Otherwise may be the ignition module that has expired, or even a failed lead (coil - dizzy) If there is no ignition (spark) this might explain the smell of unburnt fuel.

ignition modules are about $100 aftermarket by ACA or genuine about 6 hunj . Did you check ignition fuse? Also earth connections can screw things up when you are always thinking positive supply , using your test leads earth can be green herring, sorry, that is a restaurant, red herring.

Hmm the fella mite have been having me on, as I don't know a hole hell of a lot about coils I bought it
As for the ignition lead tomorrow, I am pretty sure the leads on it are fairly new but well this fella has clearly been dishonest so mite just go buy as set
If not ignition module it is, although proberly get one from the wreckers
Cheers for that

Not sure if they have an ignition module as such but I know they have the electronic dizzy and it's all inbuilt
