The rear CVs hold up ok with a welded so I don't see why the front won't...

My thoughts anyway!

Fronts take so much more stress from angles than the rear because the fronts also turn. Turning puts more angle on them then articulation. I wouldn't be worried about wear from the locker, I'd be worried about snapping the outer CV's race!

Well if the rear locker is successful which im sure it will be I will try a front one. That can be my uni project for the future few years :) Don't know until we try.

Yes, all Subaru's with R160 diff. Which is all subies unless upgraded , also some WRX's and STI's have R180 diffs or similar.

I've thought about this Phiz - and while I agree I think you forget that the idea of a selectable locker is to use it when you need it in situations were traction is at a minimum - thus there shouldn't be any extra stress to the CVs in this situation. If trying to park the subi at the local black top carpark with the locker engaged it's a totally different situation.

I'm willing to sacrifice a CV to find out if they're any good up front

I agree to a point. But I'd probably do something stupid like trying to follow my brother in his 4Runner or something like this

Rear should have no problem at all. They handle welded diffs fine except those stubs work harden til they just snap.

So Taza, you've taken into account newer Subaru's have the snap in male driveshafts where as the older ones have bolt in stubs and female driveshafts?

A front locker give problems iv had in total 3 ifs 4wds with lockers in the front and the only time i ever had troubles was on full lock if it suddenly got traction or to much power it would shatter cv,s but that happens to anything with a locked "steer" diff... subaru,s are like any other 4wd just smaller

They will be engaged and dis-engage with cable mechanism like the Dual-Range or 4WD leaver found on/in Subarus. I haven't exactly figured out a selector for in the cabin yet.

Prices well, im not really sure. It depends how much they cost to make. But probably only a few hundred. I have been looking at prices of some Auto-Lockers and a few others. I would say very roughly around $400 plus postage. Maybe abit more, depends on how much they cost to make really. Hope this is of some help for people.

I couldn't of done it without the diff. Yes you will have the honor of trying/testing it. I would really like to test it out at the powerlines since there is some really hardcore stuff out there.

The cable for recoverying my hard drive is in the mail as we speak, I should be getting it either today, tomorrow or early next week.

Hahahaha, Good one:p Nah, i recon taza should have the first honors to test drive it since he has and is putting all the effort. Just don't flip/roll or dent my car on the rocks:twisted:

Cool, hummm might need to make a custom center console for the cable activated looking lever:)
