you must be panicking, because you wrote all of that with out taking a break.
Sounds like the synchro has gone and it is jammed in gear.
Either look at getting it rebuilt or another box, as those compression second gear change downs will do that.

Or it's a bent selector fork - happened to subafury ages ago on his Rex...
I didn't know that second didn't like compression change downs - I always do them and not had a problem before, but then again I double the clutch all the time on down changes.
Cheers

Did you try and turn the engine off and see if comes out of gear?
I'm thinking that if your clutch has only just been changed, then if may just need adjusting after settling in.

I've heard of wrx boxes which have been belted to kingdom come getting alot of power put thru them, then when compression shifting in second the box went bang.
Like paul said, can you move the shifter into gears with the motor off?
I think the gbox has popped a gear.

Hopefully no damage was done. Who changed the clutch? Did they drain the oil?

i changed the clutch but didnt even bother about checking the fluid because before i pulled it apart it was driving fine so ill get some tranny fluid asap and hope for the best but if worst comes to worst how much will be a second hand gearbox

there you go Paul
It depends on where you get the box from, but normally between 500 and 3500 dollars.

Thanks Jules.. that did clear it up
mattneggar, best to put manual gear oil in there but just to make sure all is good, I'll put 4 litres of ATF (auto trans fluid) in and let it run for a couple of days. This will make sure all the synchros are free and clear of debris. Then drain and swap to a good quality gear oil.

Very hard to say without having the car on a hoist and listening to al the bits turning inside it. I'd just try this ATF first and this will give you some idea of whether or not things are going to work correctly.
