head bolt tension technique....

Post by steptoe » Wed Nov 09, 2011 9:35 pm

called quilting. Only for old type reuseable not torque to yield style.

Tension bolts up and of course you oiled the threads and bolt head or used ARP's stuff.

Then get a 3lb hammer, decent size drift and whack each head bolt in the middle in head tight sequence, then hit them with torque wrench at top setting of specs. Aparently you keep whackin' the head bolts in sequence (guess you do them all, then torque 'em) a few times until your torque wrench says you've done well.

Came from a head shop newsletter - they found it in old English Motor Engineering aand Navel (sic) books

Another source warning never to loosen off head bolts, not even for a retension !!
