whats a good estimate to have a the internals of a closed deck ej20g replaced (just labour) considering the swap to some later wrx heads....
cheers

piece of string answer? any machining at all being done? ( bore hone for correct piston and ring clearance?) or just drop in the pistons and rings and pray for the best? You pulling the engine to drop it off or they removing and refitting from car? New gaskets, head studs?
A piston swap, new rings? and re-assemble of block using old parts should be around $500ish with pray and hope warranty. But i have been wrong / wide of the mark before.
Whats a 2nd hand long motor worth these days? It may be a better option $ wise

i'll remove and re-assemble the engine with some guidance but have to get the actual block work done by pros, if bore is damaged or wrong size and with the stroke being different between the 20g and later model then this must be compensated in piston size to retain 2l capacity so machining would be necessary... i'm looking into pricing everything else but was wondering the approx. on this.. and as for a second hand long motor will be alot cheaper (you never know the history of an engine aswell) but doing a rebuild is something i want to do, i enjoy learning and with my uncle having had alot of experience in this type of thing i'm more then confident in doing it correct and learning alot along the way aswell as gaining the confidence in knowing the engine is going to be a strong and reliable engine.

the stroke is the same for all EJ20 & EJ22s = 75mm, EJ25 run 79mm stroke cranks. Pre 1999 engines run a middle thrust bearing and post 99 a rear thrust bearing too. So there are 4 basic types of subaru turbo cranks, some minor differences over the years (nitriding, cross drilling etc)
dont worry about the effect on capacity from boring, the usual .25mm bore increases are so little overall capacity movement that unless you cc it youd never know.
WA machining prices (everything else you can do yourself with some tools and the assembly / service manual and taking care and time) try ringing around shops, ask if they have an EJ20 torque plate first, if not keep ringing till you find someone with one. then drop in for a chat.
Frog on here is apparently great for genuine subaru parts. try Pmíng him for prices.
Good luck with it, also check the built motor section of NASIOC for threads by team scream and Crystal impreza on home built motors, some of them are massively informative on things that youll never thought about but should have an idea about. eg bearing clearances etc.
