Is there anything to be careful of/make things easier when hooking up an external tacho to the electronic ignition system of an L series. I have to admit I have never done this (showing my age) I have only hooked one up on points fitted cars.
I would like to check the cards timing and so need to set the RPM.
Are the wiring contacts under that black plastic cover on the coil (havent pulled this cover off yet)

My old timing light has the rev meter on it and you connect the extra wire to the negative side of the coil (points or electronic doesn't matter) but if you are fitting an aftermarket meter then it should come with a wiring diagram.
Yes the wiring loom is under the plastic guard.

Yep, to answer question, pos and neg terminals of coil are under the black coil tower cover and I have so far been able to read off my electronic dizzies and efi run coils, same principle - using my 1982 dwell meter from Tandy - I had a timing light and dwell meter ready for when I got my first car

Was just an indication I was ready to pull it apart very soon after buying it
