Gearbox Replacement

At the weekend I am going to look at a brumby that's for sale. In the advert it says the reverse doesn't work. Could this be an easy fix?

I currently have a Subaru Leone which I could possibly use for parts (it's too good for that really). I was wondering if it is the same gearbox as the brumby and would it be a straight swap?

I know the brumbies have the hi/lo selector is this separate.

cheers
Michael

The Brumby box is 4WD, whhat about a car called a Leone - weren't they all FWD ?? FWD Brumby could be a good reliable vehicle for city driving. If you have a wagon donor in same shape yep easy swap, if you have L Series 5 speed 4WD as donor can still be done - just bigger learning curve

The Brumby has a 4 speed dual range box that has a common problem of flogging out the selector. I would be checking this first. It makes it very hard for the driver to select reverse. Try selecting 1st gear and see how much play (side to side) movement the gear stick has? This may save you buying a box?? As this can be fixed without removing the box.

I'll check that when I view the brumby

as RSR said the selector can develop slop. On the last on I bought the slop was fixed in about 3.5 minuets with a 4mm or 5mm allen key to do the two grub screws up. with the front of the car on ramps i crawled under and done the screws up tight. Hey presto she went into reverse.
Hopefully that is all thet is wrong.
