EA81 water pumps

Just curious...are there any variations on these pumps available?

Have they all got the same flow? Bearing quality?

Also I realsie the EA81 manifold is heated. Jusy renewed the small coolant hoses. But that would make the air/fule mix hotter and therefore less economy. Cold air intake is better then the air is heated...me no understand. Guys? Please explain.

The manifold is also a coolant transfer between sides and highest point so may sort out air trappings. Being alloy block , heads and manifold really can't see blocking off the heat at the heads as far as coolant goes any real measureable difference. Have blocked off water heated manifolds before with no measureable effect in power or economy, neither did the white paint help !
Most water pumps are GMB made in Japan with pressed steel vanes. Original may have been cast impeller, EA82's were.

Going supercharged is 50/50 which is an advancement form 90/10 agaisnt a while ago. Likely SC14 for a number of obvious reasons.

So I've read info about the heat transfer/running temps of SC's and cold air intake and wodnered why the ea81 has its manifold heated which should only hamper a Sc set up.

Thanks Steptoe.

You'll find that it was to help in cold climates and it aids in fuel vaporisation. What you might find with the SC without an intercooler is that the air temps are higher than that of the coolant running along the intake manifold.

Or you could have a go at knocking up something like this with the SC:

Certainly not my work!

I think it'd look awesome in yellow with a SC in there somewhere

This one's been around for a few years mate! I've always wondered if this made it into the engine bay... I don't remember reading about it or seeing a photo of it in there.

haha Steptoe !!!!!

Wont be long and when owners post questions about their EJ issues we'll be saying

"go EA with a custom intake from Tweety performance, SC14 s/hand and a SU carb. So much easier, no EMU ECU or f..k you's, more compact, no timing belts and easy to work on".

The EA81 is back! The baby boomer engine of choice!

I have not seen any diffences in the output flow or the hose sizes for any EA81 water pumps. The only diffences I've seen is the EA81T has the 2 V-Belt pulley on it. I'm not sure if this was done to help with flow but I guess the harder the pump tries to push, the more it would cause the belt to slip.

Wasn't there a pump that had the pulley spaced further out? I seem to remember someone on here buying one and installing it only to find the pulley on the pump didn't line up with crank/alt/fan pulleys...

That is the EA82T multi rib versus V belt with 105 and 110 mm deck heights
