Hi flow thermostat

Installed a Tridon hi-flow thermostat (TT-2041-180) from super cheap today $24. about 30% more flow.

Tweety has his main radiator the front now and 32mm S/steel tubes to hook it all up. I was hoping the extra flow would eliminate air pockets but not so. But it did flow better. This was evident when I carried out my ritual of cold start and high idle, wait for stat to open (shows a quick decline in water temp on the digital gauge). The temps fell quicker at this point- very noticable.

More relevant thread for VW owners with Subaru conversions.

Mate, we are all tricked by this high flow thing. They may flow 30% or up to 30% more than their normal thermostats but seems the high flow hole is about same as Subaru spec thermostats. An interesting test would be to pit one of these against a genuine !

Well if the hi-flow stats are similar to original stats in flow then thats good- the flow would be what the flow should be.

And the common Tridon I've been using is 30% less than the flow it should be.

So if I get you right Steptoe then hi-flow is proper flow quantity. Therefore, the flow in my cooling system has been less than what it should be. I went for a long ride today and the temperature is certainly more consistant and lower than what it has been, less prone to creeping up in traffic etc- very obvious it is.

So hi-flow stats should be renamed- normal stats. and the common stats- restrictive stats!!!
