Jarvis Subaru Adelaide good/bad?

Post by Outshanker » Thu Apr 26, 2012 7:56 pm

Hello subaru heads,
Looks like my beloved 97 Outback needs to go in and have the head gaskets replaced. Thinking of getting done by a Subaru dealer workshop believing the premium I'm probably going to pay will be balanced out in the quality of the work. So my question is have any of you guys used Jarvis Subaru Adelaide for major mech work and if so how did it all work out?

Don't no, dr_gonzo works there.
I use eblen's as they are closer to me, they are great.
I would assume Jarvis is good to though.

Cheers Cam

I would suggest dealers are not really interested in this sort of work, preferring plug and check for codes, replacing broken ashtrays under warranty, WD40 on the door hinges, that sort of thing.

Try Steve at Rising Sun Imports (RSI) P: 8349 6960

Will be cheaper!

As an example only this week I quoted up work for our Ford (purchased from Jarvis MNR) as an exercise

Trans service
Jarvis = $368 RSI = $165

Cooling system flush
Jarvis $220 RSI = $65

Yeah, just got a quote from the engine guy, to do a shit load of work to the engine. ( best ea81 he's seen, and don't doubt it) heads are gonna be about $1100, all up about $3000.

Careful Sven, there's two Rising Sun's in Adelaide, and the Rising Sun "Imports" one is on the wrong side of town (South) and aren't interested in drive in-drive out jobs...as I found out :p They did do the head gaskets on my EA81 though and did a good job too, but the engine was out of car. Reference for Cam I paid only a couple of hundred dollars, but the heads were already faced.
Will it ever end!?

Nah, I've got mud_king helping. Engines in pieces at knight engines. It's just a heep of machining to be done, new pistons etc. some of the work doesn't need doing but will make it the best EA81 ever. And Sven if it was just a gasket job, parts $110, and heads faced that's it.

Chuck a bottle of Chemiweld in it and if it works sell it or keep it until it needs another bottle, just stick to the instructions and shake well.
