Brumby EA81 correct valve clearance?

Post by schedango » Mon Jun 25, 2012 11:03 pm

Hi all, just got my first subaru, a 1991 brumby. Currently sorting a few things out, one of which is the valve clearances. I have searched but have found conflicting measurements so am wondering if anyone can give me the definite measurements in mm? Thanks in advance.

the valve clearances on an EA81 motor can differ on each motor due to age, wear and engine modification.

showthread.php?t=16439 the gregorys manual has the suggested clearances and the procedure, as does the FSM for the 83 motor

there was even a thread with much discussion on finding the best solution for an individual motor. Which of course I can't find ... Steptoe?

good luck

Quiet but not too tight on operating temperature seems to be best. I have set mine fitted with a hotter cam grind at factory suggested 10 and 12 thou, ? and sounded like a chaff cutter. Best was get it to op temp and I used 4 thou on both while HOT
