When I had my EA81 out and required a new rear seal I was told to leave this little orange one and only replace the large seal on the moving parts.

I don't seem to have any oil leaks since doing this, but I've also not driven the vehicle daily yet.

Cheers

Oh I think I remember this seal now, or "O ring" as the manual describes it. First looked at this thread and had no ideas, now it comes back to me. When I rebuilt an EA81 a couple years back, this seal thingy did come in my gasket kit, so I chucked it in where the book told me to put it. Few days later when that engine failed (un-related, different story ) when pulling it down we took the flywheel off and this seal was chewed to shreds, expert with me at the time didn't know why I even put it in there. In short, you don't need it. That big black oil seal keeps the crank oil inside the crank, and some oil can seep through the threaded holes where the flywheel bolts up. This is why the manual says to put sealant (insert part number here) on the threads of the bolts when you bolt the flywheel up.
Will it ever end!?

Sent him a PM?

And what happened to Phil in Darwin?

There's a number of members with lots of good info that have dropped off the pages :(

Phil, and Subie Wan Kenobi, and Justin from blackbox motorsport, Alpine Raven and Disco !! Even that FIFO guy in WA that competes with Willy for who owns the greater number of Subarus has been very quiet.

Yeah it's pretty sad. I must admit that I now frequent the forum more often via my phone than the computer :/

Hence why there's no recent pics on my build of Ruby Scoo - got an update about some maintenance I've been meaning to do...

Cheers
