Hey Guys,

So the lift kit is in, BUT
I find it hard to select gears, as in not quite going all the way in, is this normal?
As the car still isnt on the road i am unable to test whether it is actually in or not but i am doubtfull.
Is there a trick to this?
I wasnt expecting to mod anything after buying a kit.

Also how much, and which end should i cut my lower radiator hose.

Confirmed by rolling the car.
1-3 are all ok.
4th feels like it should slip out but doesnt, (it may when driving)
Reverse won't go anywhere near to in gear.
Any help guys?

One thing come's to mind - Did you make the hole in transmission tunnel big enough so the gear lever does'nt hit it ?

I've also read somewhere that you have to make sure all the shift linkages or bushes are perfect. Otherwise the stick will touch the tunnel before its in gear.

Make sure the selector sleeve on the gearbox selector shaft is tight.
Make sure the bush at the bottom (pivot point) of the gear lever is not to loose, or better still, not loose at all (no freeplay).
The lift kit changes where the range lever sits, this can be realigned by bending and/or spacers
The gear lever needs to be re aligned, I do not know any "nice" way of doing it, but I have used either of two methods;
a. Take the gearlever out and bend it slightly in the vice.
b. This put a lot of load on your gearbox linkages/bushes, so it is at your own risk, a piece of water pipe over the gear lever and bend it in the required direction. Sometimes you may need to jam a piece of wood in the correct place for it to pivot on. If the bottom pivot point of you gear lever is worn, it will probably break using this method.

Sorry only rough methods, but they have always worked for me.

I opened it up and had a look, turns out the gear lever was hitting the 4wd selector which was stopping reverse.
In the end I found that if I took the dust boot out it had enough room so that's why I've done.
The boot was being squished between the two and not letting it in, nothing hitting the transmission tunnel.

Got the console back in yet, thats where it usually hits.

Yep, everything is in as it should be.
Still working well. When you go to put it in reverse it just touches the 4wd selector shaft.
All good, untill I go through deep water or mud and decide I want that boot back

I'd be trying to do this with the gear selector boot remaining where it is.

I've heard of people re-jigging the gear selector lever by cutting off the point where the selector rod from the gearbox joins the gear stick/lever to a higher point. This requires the diagonal piece to be redone as well to meet the higher mounting point. This will give you more movement or throw in the gearbox for less gear stick movement up and down or into 1st and 2nd etc. I won't change the throw left to right, there's nothing you can do about that.

Terrible idea mate!!

You will gas yourself without that boot, trust me I've done a similar thing before (except mine wasn't deliberate, it was only half on).

Yes Bennie clear as mud.
I have no idea now, apart from putting the boot back in and cutting out the bit that stops me from selecting reverse.
