Brumby Story

Hi guys - My Brumby - 88 Ag Quip - 380,000kms - original engine - When I bought it ($300) I had the heads off because of suspected failed gasket (was a welch plug) and I wanted to have a look anyway - the bottom waterways were clogged - anyway it never ran quite the way I thought it should - idle problems (carby to bits lots of times) - never started first go when hot, always second time - would suddenly run a whole lot better for a few seconds, and this went on for about 20,000kms - just recently it began to refuse to start when hot (with no fuel pump operation) and would start when cool - thanks to this forum I suspected the distributor and fuel pump relay - Ive got a few sportswagen wrecks but had given away all of the distributors - Doh! - In desperation I looked through a box of bits in one of the wrecks and lo and behold - an ea81 points disributor !! - a fuel pump relay from an L series - and now it idles - starts first go - has more power - fuel pump primes as it should - and probably better economy !!

Good news mate!

With the old dizzy was it electronic dizzy? If so the module is probably responsible for the issue. It's a cheap part - if you ask for it from another model of vehicle. Otherwise if you ask for a subaru part they tend to bump the price.

Hopefully Steptoe might be able to find that thread with the dizzy module and the different models of vehicle it can be found it. Replace that and you'll have a sweet electronic dizzy again - much easier than points IMO.

Let us know how it holds up ;)

Cheers
