Hi all,
I've put a dual range gearbox into a 1997 RX sedan from a 2.0 2000 forester. It's all working great, however I'm sick of popping the bonnet to get low range.
Does anyone know if I can get the entire console and lever out of a 2nd gen dual range outback and it will just bolt in, or if there are some nuisances that I need to consider?

Is your 97 RX a Liberty or an Impreza?
If its a Liberty, the Outback console will bolt straight in, if its an Impreza, use a Forester console

It's a liberty, that's good news cheers.
One more thing, there is a spare plug comming out of the loom next to the neutral and reverse switch plugs, is this for the low range switch?
It does not make any lights come on in the dash when I short it, maybe I also need a new cluster...

Why not just cut a slot in the console you have now? It's what I did here.

Hes correct.. Gen 1 & 2 liberty has the same cable but Gen 2 has different colour lever but basically both same.

maybe you don't short the wire but power it ? Subaru used to send power through gearbox switches in MY and L series - doubt they'd change ...

If anyones interested, I just needed to put a new bulb in the dash and the low range light works.

I finally got to a wreckers, $30 got me the cable and lever but he didn't have the right bit of plastic so I've cut it until I can find one.
Pictures if anyone cares.
I cut a hole in the rubber boot thing.
I think this is how the cable is ment to run...
Lost the awesome coin holders
Success!

G'day,
The cable position is incorrect, it should be on the right side of the shifter, if you leave it like that you'll notice shifting doesnt feel right as its rubbing.
Cheers
