Hi guys - My L series auto has just chewed out the governor drive cog - for the second time - I have a L series manual parts car thats gearbox is probly ok - thinking about doing a swap - Im guessing its all pretty straight forward to change over ? My idea is to make it into an "economy" car - stripping out ALL excess weight - including the rear diff (I never use 4wd anyway) fitting 14' wheels, high profile tyres, water injection ( I have it on my Brumby and it works very well - you can run a leaner mixture and more advance) - the price of fuel is outrageous on Kangaroo Island - $1.62 ulp $1.08 lpg - Im thinking 30 mpg shouldnt be too hard ! cheers

I have done the L Series 1985 3 speed auto 4WD out and the 87 Touring Wagon 5 speed manual 4WD in - easy peasy with engine out first, back in last.
If you removed rear diff the tailshaft needs somewhere to go, as it is plugging up the drive at the rear of the box, remove shaft and you wil lose oil, or do you plan to fit a FWD box ?

Just figured I would leave the front half of the tailshaft to the centre bearing - there must be 50 - 60 kilos to be saved at least - the ass of the car will be waving in the air though - will have to lower it a bit !

I have done a few man-auto and vise versa (favorite word today).
It all bolts up.
Getting you rear driveshafts out can be a bit of fun, sometimes its easy.
Don't forget to short out your auto trans selector starter P & N contacts, or she no crank.

that wire will be the fattest black wire with white trace ? in a flat white connector on the floor near the handbrake, drivers side of the hump
